Notes
We had a great turnout for the Polkadraai route over the weekend
Our members are eagerly looking forward to cycling the Polka and similar type of routes that’s a bit challenging to start of with
The PPA and WP have cycling events planned for September already
In October the PPA have the One Tonner 170km planned November the DC 202km takes place in Swellendam
Two events that cyclists will spend a long time in the saddle
The One Tonner route and other PPA events are not over flat roads
There’s usually rolling hills and long climbs along the route
Then there’s the high speeds the cyclists race at in these events
That’s why as a cycling club we plan rides that’s beneficial to our members for these events
Members who rode the Polka route over the weekend now have an idea of their cycling fitness
Im sure we all need to improve on it
We don’t have coffee stops on our rides
At cycling events there’s no coffee stops
We have coffee after our rides
Members whose interested in taking part in PPA events from September need to join our rides
Sofar winter has gone quick and there’s only one month left of August before Spring
That’s roughly five weeks that we plan on having rolling hills rides with the distances increasing every second week
There’s no shortcut to getting better at cycling hills
Only by cycling hills do you get better at it
The One Tonner have over 1500meters of elevation in it
There’s two long climbs and a lot of rolling hills in the route
Apart from the One Tonner being a cycling bucket list item its also great for improving your PPA seeding
A better seeding gives you a early start at PPA events
I can’t tell our members what’s the best training plan for them
All i know from my cycling experiences is that TITS (time in the saddle) does make a difference
Especially leading to a endurance event like the One Tonner
Looking forward to our members spending more time in the saddle over the remaining five weeks of winter
No rain predicted for the weekend
Please make use of the rainfreee weather to join our rides
